- Drink 1 percent or skim milk rather than whole milk or 2%.
- Bake, poach, or broil meats, fish, and poultry.
- In recipes that call for flour, use at least half whole-wheat flour.
- Drink lots of water. At least 8 glasses a day. Water helps the body metabolize fat.
- Eat light snacks in between meals to avoid overeating.
- Stretch your meals to at least 20 minutes longer. Eating slowly gives your brain a chance to catch up and signal you when you're full.
- Increase your diet with spicy foods. Spicy foods such as hot peppers and jalapenos speed up the metabolism.
- Reduce your intake of caffeine. Caffeine raises insulin levels in the body, which slows down your ability to burn fat.
- Raise your fiber intake. Fiber fills you up faster and helps you digest your food better.
- Exercise just before dinner or early afternoon. Studies have shown that you burn more stored fat while exercising on an empty stomach.
- DO NOT SKIP MEALS! Skipping meals slows down the metabolism and increases your chances of overeating the next meal.
